Elephant Sands stock photography Botswana
While making the journey from Maun to Kasane in June 2022, we stopped off at Elephant Sands. We spent just one night there but we managed to see more than 30 elephants. Whether you’re chilling out in the comfort of your own tent, have rented a luxury tent or are enjoying dinner at the campsite’s restaurant, you’ll notice these magnificent animals absolutely everywhere.
We found that it was easiest to get close to the animals at the restaurant which overlooks a huge waterhole. Management refills the waterhole to make sure there is always enough for everybody. Only at the restaurant, the elephants are separated from the public by just a small electric fence.
While we were there, we hired a luxury tent for the night, which was comfortable and spacious, and came with its own toilet and shower. The best thing about the tent were the views! As well as roaming elephants, we also saw kudu. You can find the Elephant Sands Lodge on Google Maps.
For safety reasons, you’re not allowed to walk from your tent to the restaurant, so we had to drive the 100 meters to get there. Nowhere in the world have we seen families of elephants in the wild this closely!
And don’t be scared! The elephants here are used to people, so you always feel safe. Plus, the staff are always so friendly and helpful. It really was a highlight of our trip in Botswana.
