Travel stock photography Suriname

Lots of people may have travelled to South America, but have you ever heard of Suriname? Dutch people have! Officially known as the Republic of Suriname. It sits on the continent’s northeastern coast and is bordered by French Guiana, Guyana and Brazil. Suriname is officially South America’s smallest country, which makes it pretty easy to explore!

I managed to make it over to this hidden gem back in October 2006. I collected some great travel stock photographs of Suriname. During my time in the country, I made it to Paramaribo, Nickerie and Brokopondo Lake. I’d love to go back one day to go on a jungle hike. And have another delicious saoto soup along the waterfront in Paramaribo.

If you’re looking for photos of nearby destinations, you can also check out my travel stock photography of Panama. If you want to know more about my travel stock photography of Suriname, here’s what each destination has to offer:

Paramaribo

Paramaribo is the capital of Suriname and sits on the beautiful Suriname River. Here, you can check out the UNESCO World Heritage Historical City Centre, visit the vibrant market and eat plenty of seafood.

Nickerie

This small border town is the gateway to Bigi Pan, a sprawling swamp known for its plethora of wildlife. Here, you’ll find the beautiful red ibis, caimans and water snakes.

Brokopondo Lake

Brokopondo Lake was built in the 1960s and is now the largest body of water in Suriname. Despite its man-made nature, it’s stunningly beautiful to visit with open water, submerged trees and lots of little islands to explore on a tour.
